What exactly is sustainability? Simply put, sustainability is about changes we can make to help look after the planet. Making these changes helps protect animals, plants, and our environment’s natural resources.

With Planet Earth being home to more than 7 billion people, there are a lot of the planet’s resources being used every day.

Sustainability gives us ways to protect and conserve the environment. In this episode, we discuss a simple way we can all make a difference to help the planet!

Materials
• 4 plastic or glass bottles -Using what you already have in your recycle bin is a great way to help sustain the planet
• 3 different types of Fruit or Vegetable scraps. We have raspberries, bananas, and onions.
• 4 balloons
• Tape
• Water
• Time

Procedure
1. Mash up fruit and/or vegetables.
2. Place fruit and/or vegetables in 3 of the 4 bottles.
3. Fill the 4th bottle with water to 3/4 full.
4. Cover the fruit and vegetables with water to 3/4 full.
5. Place the balloon over the tops of bottles.
6. Tape balloons in place.
7. Leave the bottles in a warm place and observe as the food breaks down and creates methane gas, collected by the balloons!
